Everyone knows Emilia Clarke Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons in the Game of Thrones Fantasy Series, but not many people know that she was completely unknown before getting the iconic role. She only had two filming credits on her resume. Her father didn’t think she’d make it is an actress. When she was ten years old, she told her about her desire to become an actress.
Her family wasn’t thrilled with the idea. Especially her father. He didn’t believe her. He warned her that it’s more possible that she’d end up behind a counter of a fast-food restaurant, than star in a movie.
“When I told my dad I wanted to be an actress, he replied that there was only one line I needed to learn, ‘do you want fries with that?”
After finishing school, Emilia Clarke applied in 3 British drama schools, but none of them accepted her application. Her dream to be an actress overcome the pain from the rejections and she never gave up. She continued sending her CV to drama schools while working as a waitress. One day she had a call from the drama Centre London that she’s in. she graduated in 2009.
In 2010, Emilia Clarke rented a small apartment with her friends but like most struggling and aspiring actresses, she also had to work less desirable jobs in order to make it. Before Emilia Clarke became the mother of dragons in the game of thrones, she used to work three to six different jobs just to get by.
“I was doing a Call center job. I was a waitress and I was working in a bar in east London. Unemployed actor that was what I was doing. I had only just come out of drama school one year before this happened.”
So! How her life Change?
She didn’t lose hope that one day she’ll get an interesting offer that will change her life. That day came when her agent called with the exciting news that she landed an audition for a new HBO show, Game of Thrones. She had only 24 hours to prepare for the audition if she wanted to get the part and how did she prepared in that short period of time?
Emilia Clarke had to call in sick to her catering job and learned everything she could from Wikipedia about George R.R. Martin’s, ‘’A Song of Ice and Fire”. Four days later… She got the part of Daenerys Targaryen. “After my last audition for “Game of Thrones,” they said, ‘Congratulations, Princess. I was like BYE-BYE, Call Centre.” But what if she actually listened to her father and didn’t try to pursue her dream to be an actress?
If she didn’t believe in herself… her life would be very different right now. We often allow doubt, insecurities low self-esteem, or other people’s opinion to get question our decisions, our abilities, our dreams. People will always point out your flaws and constantly remind you of your failures, constantly telling you that you can’t make it you’re not good enough you’re unrealistic you’re a fool to evil think about dreaming bigger. And I know this will make it even harder to believe in yourself.
The biggest difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is the belief that you can achieve their dream if you don’t believe in what you’re doing, then how you will take the first terrifying step toward making your dream reality you can’t believe in yourself does not mean that won’t face failures. But you will. Get up wash the dirt off you and keep going! Because at some point in your life, you will be surrounded by people who will point your failures and make you doubt yourself.
You should never let anyone have that kind of power over you. You are the only person who is in control of your life. Never stop believing in yourself and once you really believe that you can stand up and fight for your dream, will find a way to make it work, even if the odds of success are against you. You will make it work! If you don’t believe in yourself who else will?
